Free Online Training for Volunteers
MHERC is pleased to offer free online training for volunteers through our Learning On‑Demand platform to Canterbury-based organisations.
We recognise the incredible work volunteers do every day. This training programme has been developed to equip them with practical tools, strategies, and insights that strengthen their ability to support others - while also looking after their own mental health and wellbeing.
The training will be available from 30 March 2026. Registered volunteers can log in and complete the workshops at their own pace, at a time that works best for them.
Included Workshops:
-
Resilience: Build, Adapt, Grow
Learn practical strategies for maintaining wellbeing and building resilience during challenging situations.
-
Compassion Fatigue and Burnout: Recognising the Signs and Strategies for Prevention and Recovery
Understand the emotional impact of helping roles and discover ways to protect your mental and emotional wellbeing.
-
Effective Communication to Manage Distress: De‑escalation Techniques
Gain useful techniques to respond calmly, safely, and effectively when situations become tense or challenging.
Volunteers who complete a workshop will receive a certificate of completion, which can support both personal and professional development.
