Worried about someone else's immediate safety?

If someone has attempted suicide or you're worried about their immediate safety:

  • Call 111
  • Stay with them until support arrives
  • Remove any obvious dangerous objects
  • Make sure you are safe
  • Try to stay calm and take some deep breaths
  • Let them know you care
  • Keep them talking - listen and ask questions without judging

What is the first step to getting help?

  • If you feel unwell your best starting point is usually your GP (family doctor). GPs are trained to assess and manage a range of mental health issues. They may also refer you to local community mental health services or a private specialist. Most GPs can help you access a number of free counselling sessions.
